[Summer 2019 – Columbus, OH]
This year we grew four varieties of tomatoes; Beefsteak, Roma, Rutgers, and Large Red Cherry. First, we added the eggshell powder into our tomato bed as it is a good source of calcium that can prevent blossom-end rot conditions. Then we sprinkled the seeds and covered with a thin layer of soil. We grew zinnias in our tomato bed to attract beneficial insects such as ladybugs and wasps to control aphids and hornworms. Tomato plants don’t want a lot of water, so we didn’t water them regularly.
