[Summer 2019 – Columbus, OH]
This year we grew the pumpkin variety; Sugar Small. We grew pumpkin with corn and mung beans. We directly seeded them on the plot and watered well when they are small. We sprayed neem oil for the plants that got powdery mildew. Other than the fungal diseases pumpkin plants are very easy to maintain. These plants need plenty of space, keep that in mind when growing them in your plot. Still, all our plants are doing well, so at the end of the season, we might get five or six more pumpkins.

When we grow our organic produce, we usually do not like to waste anything nutritious. Although pumpkin seeds are highly nutritious, I do not like the recipe of roasted pumpkin seeds as it is time-consuming and tedious. So I decided to blend and strain the scooped pumpkin seeds with water to prepare veggie soups. It is super easy and delicious. Finally, we were able to consume our very first pumpkin without wasting any part of it.
