We use grow mats that are made of natural hemp fibers to grow microgreens. They are 100% biodegradable.
First we dip the grow mats with water, and then sprinkle the seeds evenly on it. They usually take two days to germinate, so we have to keep them in the dark for the first two days. Then we can transfer them near an artificial light source or a window (you do not necessarily need grow lights for microgreens). We keep them under our living room light. We spray water every other day to keep them moist. After five days we can harvest broccoli, clover, red radish, alfalfa and mustard sprouts for salads. But lentils need four or five more days to make sprouts. We can add lentil sprouts into soups or to curries to intensify their flavor.
