[Summer 2017 & 2018 – Columbus, OH]
Swiss chard is a leafy beet variety that does not produce a bulb. Despite its common name, this plant is native to the Mediterranean region. In mid-May, we planted our chard seeds directly on our plot. They need well-drained soil and regular watering. Chard gets fewer pest damages; therefore, they are super easy to maintain. During summer 2017, we had more than enough harvest for us, so we happily shared the excess with our friends and neighbors.
