[Summer 2017 & 2018 – Columbus, OH]
Lettuce grows well in early summer and fall. They love cool weather. To grow lettuce, we need a fertile, loose, and well-drained soil. We sprinkled our lettuce seeds directly on the bed and covered it with a thin layer of soil and did frequent watering to keep the soil moist. In summer heat some plants got flowers, and their leaves got a bitter taste. To get rid of the bitterness, we washed the leaves with cold water and kept them in the crisper drawer for 48 hours.
