Green Beans

[Summer 2017 & 2018 – Columbus, OH]

We grew blue lake bush bean variety together with corn. When corn plants were nearly 6” height, we planted four bean seeds around each of them. Green bean is an excellent companion for corn by supplying nitrogen. Usually, bean plants do not need any special care when they grow with companion plants. So, increasing the bio-diversity will control pests and boost your harvest by making it easy for you to maintain.
Excess green bean harvest can be frozen to save for the winter. Not only that for a sustainable garden, but it is also essential to save seeds for the next gardening season. I usually let some green bean pods dry on the plant and collect them while cleaning the bed. It helps to get new bean plants that are more suitable for our environment.
