Basil

[Summer 2018 – Columbus, OH]

We grew basil in the bell pepper and sweet mini pepper bed as a companion plant. We scattered the seeds over the pepper bed and covered with a thin layer of soil. This summer we grew two basil varieties.

Italian Large Leaf Basil: It is an excellent pest repellent, especially for aphids and hornworms. We can add them to pizza to intensify its flavor and smell, not only that this variety is the best to make tasty Italian pesto recipes. We even dried our excess harvest to use them in our curries throughout the year.

Lemon Basil: They have a beautiful lemon fragrant. So it was a great addition to our fresh salads.
